Learning objectives

After completing the program, you will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose, benefits, and content of an innovation management system, including the requirements of ISO 56001, definitions and principles of ISO 56000, and guidance of ISO 56002.
  • Understand how innovation management differs from other management disciplines, such as quality and environmental management, and its implications for auditing.
  • Interpret the requirements of ISO 56001 in the context of an innovation management system audit.
  • Plan, conduct, lead, report, and follow-up an audit of an innovation management system (within an audit program) to establish conformity with ISO 56001, in accordance with ISO 19011, ISO 17021-1, and the guidelines of ISO 56002.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of management systems auditing, including audit principles, programs, and processes, which may be gained through a general lead auditor training program or equivalent.

Practical experience as first-, second-, or third-party auditor and/or lead auditor of management systems, such as quality and environmental management systems.

Program overview

The program covers the fundamentals of systematic innovation management, the requirements of the ISO 56001 Innovation management system standard, and how to interpret and evaluate the subject-specific requirements. The program does not cover general auditing or lead auditing skills.

You can learn on any device at your own pace in bite-sized steps. Each module is divided into 10-12 lessons, making it easy to focus on what is relevant to you.

Part two of the program focuses on interpreting and evaluating the subject-specific requirements of ISO 56001. The following materials are also included in the program:

About the content

The main content is produced by Amplify and includes original videos and slide shows, interactive dialogues and charts, and downloadable guides and tools. All modules have cases with examples from different organizations, situation-specific guides with recommended actions, questions for individual and team reflections, summaries of key takeaways, and knowledge tests.

Most lessons end with a “Learn more” section with optional external content for deeper learning based on your interests. We have based all content on the latest practices, leading research findings, and international standards.

Program outline

The program blends live online sessions with online self-paced studies. The online learning modules are the foundation of the program and prepare you for the expert-led online live sessions and workshops. The program duration is approximately two months, with live sessions outlined as follows:

  • Session #1: Kick-off and introduction to ISO 56001 auditing (2 hours live online)
  • Session #2: Fundamentals of systematic innovation management (2 hours live online)
  • Session #3: Insights, uncertainty, & processes (2 hours live online)
  • Session #4: Strategy, structures, & performance (2 hours live online)
  • Session #5: Leadership & culture (2 hours live online)
  • Session #6: Workshops on the interpretation and evaluation of requirements (two 2 hours online live workshops)

The total study time is about 50-70 hours.

A learning portal, Amplify Academy, is available for all participants for 12 months to facilitate continuous and long-term learning and serves as your knowledge resource and hub for all program activities and communications.

Through this curriculum, we aim to maximize your learning experience and satisfy different learning styles by delivering the content through a mix of self-studies, discussions, assignments, tools, and case studies. During the program, you will meet people in your situation and thus build fruitful relationships and networks.

Program language

The program language is English in both the self-paced part and expert-led sessions.

Assessment and ISO 56001 Lead Auditor Certificate

Participants will receive an Amplify certificate of completion after passing an online exam and attending the final workshop sessions.

You will also get a certificate for completing the Systematic Innovation Management e-learning modules that is part of the program. The certificate will be issued by CPDUK and give you 50 hours/points of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits.

The program will also prepare participants for personal certification as innovation management professionals.

About the experts

Gunnar Storfeldt, Magnus Karlsson, and Maria Eriksson are your guides throughout the program.

Gunnar and Magnus are senior innovation management experts and partners at Amplify, a consulting and training company based in Stockholm, Sweden. They have over 20 years of international experience in practice, research, and standardization of innovation management. Gunnar and Magnus have supported hundreds of private and public organizations and worked with thousands of leaders and innovation management professionals.

Maria Eriksson is a Licentiate of Engineering in Quality Management and an Independent Senior Management Consultant and Advisor on management systems and auditing based in Sweden. She is formerly area responsible at a major multi-national company with over 20 years of theoretical and practical experience in the areas of non-technical standardization, management systems as well as internal and third-party auditing related to various ISO management system standards. Maria is Quality Management System IRCA Lead Auditor ISO 9001:2015 and has by this gained knowledge related to auditing techniques transferable to other ISO standards.
